Distinctive Gardening is hiring for the 2015 season!

Landscape gardeners needed full-time starting in spring 2015. Primary responsibilities would be all aspects of tending a variety of residential gardens in southern Maine. Emphasis on maintaining perennials, annuals and small shrubs in the landscape.  

EXPERIENCE:

  • Not required but ideally, you should have some experience with landscape installation, maintenance and/or design. A nursery or garden center background is helpful as well with a fundamental knowledge of landscape plant culture. A farming background is also helpful but not required.
  • Detail-oriented, artistic, creative and problem-solving abilities are essential as is working independently, staying on task and meeting deadlines.
  • You must be physically fit (some lifting required) and able to work long days at times during the spring and summer.
  • You would be trained late winter/early spring and be ready for full-time work by late April or early May.

EDUCATION:

  • 1st or 2nd year horticulture student or graduate is ideal
  • Apprenticeship or training in plant culture/maintenance is helpful
  • OPTION: There is potential for future development as a design assistant

We provide fine gardening services for residential clients in coastal Maine (mostly York County) and parts of New Hampshire. Gardening only –no lawn care, no hardscape installation, no irrigation, no tree work, and no large-scale plantings. We collaborate with a few good companies for most of the landscape installation work. Scarborough-Biddeford-Kennebunkport area is ideal location for reasonable travel.
